​Cities all over the world seem to suffer for the same complaint - forgetting. Once, by using prospering economic situation or growing tourism industry, architects and local authorities are improving city centers appearance and rising up profitable icons, huge parts of the cities seem to have vanished from public consciousness.

Those parts, which day by day are passed by the majority of citizens are public spaces in-between domestic blocks from the '70s and '80s. Associated with tough period of history are constantly ignored. As European citizens, trying to catch up with west Europe development, we would rather pretend that the problem doesn’t exist than face this part of middle Europe identity. Identity, which in fact may become an advantage. Un-denied facts of the history and architects creating in those times created a specific quality and value from which we can learn - under the condition that keeps it in our memory.

The mentioned type of housing is still used by almost 1/3 of the Polish population. Nevertheless, the closest surrounding of blocks consists mainly of rusty lawns and random car parks, with unsafe playgrounds thrown in-between this all. With up-to-date prices of land those places should have been priceless.

​

At the moment we can observe that the young active part of society is moving into suburban areas, once in the city divisions stay either old citizens or low social class. In this process, unsafety in cities will grow. 

​

In order to bring those forgotten scapes into citizens' life, there is a necessity to conduct the studies of existing problems and serious debate on ways of dealing with them. Improvement of public spaces may be to only way to make them noticeable for its potential users and start a process of rediscovery of what we own before it will permanently disappear from our memory.

/Miasta na całym świecie zdają się obecnie cierpieć na tę samą dolegliwość – zapomnienie. Podczas gdy na potrzebę przemysłu turystycznego, w centrach miast wznoszone są kolejne architektoniczne ikony, wiele terenów pozostaje wyłączona ze społecznej świadomości.

Przestrzenie pomiędzy blokowiskami z lat 70i 80 to miejsca mijane codziennie przez większość mieszkańców Wrocławia. Negatywnie kojarzone  z poprzednią epoką są konsekwentnie ignorowane a wraz z nimi wartościowe założenia stworzone przez architektów tamtych lat.

Na przykładzie jednego z Wrocławskich osiedli chcemy udowodnić, że miejsca te są godne uwagi i przy odpowiednim potraktowaniu stanowić mogą integralną część miasta,  kto wie czy, dla mieszkańców nie ważniejszą niż piękną starówka, w końcu to nie ją mijają każdego dnia...
